Healing Hands for Guatemala

We arrived on Friday in Guatemala City, then traveled by bus for about 3 to 4 hours, and arrived at San Juan la Laguna, where this adventure full of blessings would begin. That day was rest; we would have our first clinic in Tzucubal the following Saturday. To get there was only one road, and we only thought : "Imagine if it rains hard" There would be no passage because the road was dirt and had no asphalt. But it was the sunniest day, and we thanked God for that. We arrived at this small church where the community received us and was already waiting for us. We settled on some details we would improve later in the following clinics.  In this community, the Mayan language is spoken more than Spanish, and it was where we most needed translators.         Llegamos viernes a la ciudad de Guatemala para luego viajar en bus alrededor de 3 a 4 horas y llegar a San Juan la Laguna, al lugar donde esta aventura llena de bendición comenzaría. Ese día fue de descanso ya el al otro día sábado tendríamos nuestra primera clínica localizada en Tzucubal para llegar solo había un camino y solo pensábamos “imagínate si llueve fuerte” no habría paso debido a que la carretera era de tierra no tenía asfalto (embreada). Pero fue el día más soleado y le dimos gracias a Dios por eso. Llegamos a esta pequeña iglesia donde junto con la comunidad nos recibieron y ya estaban esperando por nosotros. Nos acomodamos con algunos detalles que luego en las próximas clínicas íbamos a mejorar.  En esta comunidad el idioma maya se habla más que el español y fue donde más necesitamos traductores.        Mientras estudiaba misiones en una escuela en Pensilvania, no podía imaginar todas las piezas que estaban por unirse y por qué estaba sucediendo esto.  Me gradué de preparatoria (high school) y quería ser médico, pero en ese momento, estaba jugando softball y me lesioné, por lo que no pude seguir jugando. Estaba muy frustrada y perdí la esperanza de obtener una beca. Mi tío me habló de esta escuela ministerial, y yo dije: "Bueno, vamos a intentarlo". Hice 3 años, y el último año fue mi internado.        Iban a enviar estudiantes a diferentes lugares, y uno de ellos era Guatemala; Yo estaba como: "Soy la única chica que habla español, así que definitivamente voy". En cambio, me enviaron a Nueva York. Por supuesto, estaba molesta, pero Dios estaba trabajando con mi carácter. Sabía que Él estaba construyendo un corazón para servir, y en Nueva York, comencé a trabajar en un ministerio de niños y con el programa para personas sin hogar...

    While studying missions in a school in Pennsylvania, I couldn't imagine all the connecting pieces and why this was happening.  I graduated from High school and wanted to become a Doctor, but at that time, I was playing softball and got injured, so I could not continue playing anymore. I was very frustrated and lost hope of getting a scholarship. My uncle told me about this ministry school, and I said, "Well, let's try it." I did 3 years, and the last year was my internship.      They were going to send students to different places, and one of them was Guatemala; I was like: "Yes!!! I'm the only girl who speaks Spanish, so I'm definitely going". Instead, I was sent to NYC. Of course, I was upset, but God was working with my character. I knew He was building a servant's heart, and in NYC, I started working in a children's ministry and with the homeless program.
